TOM MALISKA

Tom holds a B.A. degree (1983, Phi Beta Kappa) and J.D. (1990) from Stanford University. His professional career is defined by a unique cross-section of technical accomplishments and leading-edge work in high technology law.

Software and networking experience: Tom started his career with cutting-edge work at Stanford University in networking, software development and systems architecture, before practicing law (Stanford Law, 1990, Heller Ehrman White & McAulifee 1990-1997).  At Stanford University, he deployed advanced networking solutions and developed award-winning simulation software for higher education.  He helped to organize educational computing conferences such as EDUCOM and worked on the launch of Stanford’s pilot Microdisc program to bring discounted computer and software to students and faculty.  He also managed the deployment and operation, with SUNet, of campus-wide residential and departmental computer networks.  Tom was recognized for his contributions to educational computing and research with awards from companies such as IBM and Apple Computer. 

He has also done highly technical work on intellectual property matters for companies like Chips&Technologies, Atmel, RSA Data, and ImageX.  More recently, Tom has continued to imagine, architect and develop advanced software products and intellectual property portfolios for venture-backed clients.

Legal experience:  Tom has held both VP Business Development and General Counsel positions. He practiced law for eight years with Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe. In these roles, he has been a leader in high technology and intellectual property law. 

Tom serves with distinction in the legal profession in both California and Washington State. He has organized numerous MCLE courses on computing and intellectual property law, and chaired bar committees and conference panels on intellectual property, patent law and policy, and computer law. He is a cutting-edge lecturer and author on current intellectual property issues and the business management of intellectual property.   

ERIC BEAN
      Eric Bean is a seasoned software technology and product management leader. He has driven the development of new and innovative software products in a wide range of market areas, instituted product development processes where none existed, provided the catalyst for major strategic product and business initiatives, has successfully raised money in the capital markets, and has actively participated in over a dozen high tech mergers and/or acquisitions, both before and after the transaction.

Most recently, Eric was Senior Director of Products Management at Captaris, directing product line and lifecycle strategy and implementation for all Captaris products.

In his previous positions in engineering, IT, marketing and business management, Eric has demonstrated leadership capabilities that achieve results. As Director of Product Management for Aventail Corporation, he delivered the company’s first SSL VPN appliance product weeks ahead of schedule and supported the product’s achievement of “leadership” status in the new Gartner Magic Quadrant for related appliances. Eric’s responsibilities as Vice President of Products for ImageX Inc. and later PictureIQ Corporation included hiring and directing product development teams and other key positions. Additionally, at ImageX, he championed acquisitions of two technology companies to strengthen core offerings and played key roles in positioning and presenting the company’s story and technology for four successful financings (two private, IPO, SPO). Eric was Director of Product Management at Adobe Systems, launching Adobe PostScript 3 and Adobe PostScript Extreme which brought PDF technology into high-end and commercial printing workflows.

Eric earned two master’s degrees with honors, Software Engineering from Seattle University and Business Administration from the University of Washington Executive MBA Program and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Pacific Lutheran University.

MATT SCHEUING

Matt Scheuing is an experienced senior executive with a background spanning software, technology services and consumer retail. Equally accomplished at setting strategy, driving execution and delivering results, he has operated in companies ranging from pre-commercial start up operations to the Fortune 500 in a variety of general management roles including CEO and board member. Additional areas of expertise include international markets, mergers and acquisitions and new business development.

Prior to Kindling, Matt was the Chief Operating Officer of Captaris, a $90 million+ publicly traded software company. At Captaris, he executed a successful repositioning of the company from a lagging voice messaging provider to a recognized leader in document imaging and management; during his five year tenure, the company returned to growth and profitability after several years of operating losses.  

Before joining Captaris, Matt served as president and CEO of Conversay, a speech software provider. At Conversay, he rapidly commercialized new speech technologies with a specific focus on embedding the technology in mobile handsets and networks. Prior to that, he served in a variety of senior management roles in both the new media/content and networks groups at  U S WEST (now Qwest), most recently as Vice President for its $2 billion Small Business Group with responsibility for product management, marketing and channels. Key accomplishments included successful market rollout of DSL and e-commerce services as well as innovative voice-data-wireless bundles.  Earlier, he held several GM positions in the specialty retail industry including The Bombay Company, where he built the company’s high growth catalog division and headed international development.  

A native of Germany, Matt also has extensive international business operating experience. He holds an M.B.A. in marketing and information systems and a B.A. in finance and marketing from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

DAN CAMPI
      Dan Campi has spent his entire professional career of 24 years in the computer software industry.  He has held various sales, marketing, sales management, business development, corporate development and senior management roles, and served as a CEO and board member. 
      Notably, Dan rose to Senior Director of North America Sales during his 7 plus years at Adobe, after helping Adobe successfully merge with Aldus Corp.  After Adobe, Dan was VP Business Development at the start-up Netbot, Inc. where his strategic partnership efforts led to Netbot being acquired by Excite in 1997.  After the acquisition, Dan left to become President & CEO of web-based file sharing company Punch Networks until 2001.  In 2002, Dan served as VP Business & Corporate Development at Captaris, Inc., where he led many strategic partnering, OEM licensing and merger and acquisition projects until his departure in January 2007. 
      Dan is now a partner of Kindling based in Bellevue, WA.  Dan specializes in helping emerging and established companies develop strategic distribution and reselling partnerships, go-to-market strategies, exploration and pursuit of new markets and new revenue streams, as well as strategic merger and acquisition analysis.
      Dan holds a degree in Marketing from Pace University Lubin Business School in New York. 

